Country Code and Email Addresses

We all use email and it is a awesome form of communication. The email address is designed to make sure the emails are delivered and sent to the right people in the right places (servers).

Lets break down the email address in reverse: com.23cyber@webmaster

The (.com, .net, .ru, .jp, etc) is what is called a top level domain or country code, it helps identify where the email domain is located in the world.

The @23cyber is to identify the email domain and server.

The webmaster@ is to identify the account on the email domain and server.

Email is easy to use and works great, which is why spammers use it for email phishing.
Email phishing is the sending of fake emails to hundreds or thousands of e-mails randomly hoping a few people will bite (reply).

How to Identify emails by the country code, which can help you avoid phishing:
One way to help you identify phishing emails, is to review the top level domain or country code. What ever country you live in, the vast majority of the emails you will receive will be from a top level domain or the same country code you live in. If you receive an email with a country code other than the one you live in, there is a high probability that the email is a phishing attempt. By understanding what the country code is of an email address, will help you identify fake emails.
